As the Chief of Anesthesiology at The Scarborough Hospital, I saw all the surgeons there at work in the operating rooms. I don't mean to disrespect the other great surgeons, but when I found I needed hernia surgery, I felt most comfortable having Saul perform my operation. Everything went very smoothly. Everyone at The Scarborough Hospital did a great job. My hernia turned out to be quite complicated, as it was a sliding hernia with bowel inside it. Saul did a great job of repairing it without any issues. I only needed a handful of pain pills on the day of surgery and was able to resume normal daily activities the next day. My experience with Dr Saul was exceptional. I suffered from a condition that no other doctors could understand over a span of 3 years. I went through at least 20 + doctors, each one giving me a different diagnosis or putting me on medication that made no difference. While the condition is rare, Dr Saul listened to me intently and researched my symptoms further. Everything was done with utmost care and attention. He agreed to do my surgery within a month as well. I had an absolutely fantastic experience with Dr. Mandelbaum. I live in Barrie and had 2 umbilical hernias. The Shouldice clinic refused to operate on me since I had hernia surgery as a child and there could be complications. I turned to a local surgeon approximately 5 years ago to repair the 2 hernias but after surgery was done the surgeon told me the smaller hernia was too small to do anything with so he left it. The smaller hernia immediately became a problem within months causing me debilitating pain/discomfort for years. When I finally decided to do something about it the wait list was over 2 years in Barrie to get it repaired again. I did a Google search and found 3 surgeons in the GTA with Dr Mandelbaum being my first choice. The other 2 surgeons declined me but Dr Mandelbaum accepted me. He was patient, kind, extremely knowledgeable and explained the entire process to me. The hospital visit was equally impressive and his recovery follow up appointments answered all of my questions.
