THE VANDENBOS PROCEDURE

WHAT IS THE VANDENBOS POCEDURE?

It is a surgery to treat ingrown toenails. In the procedure the toe is frozen and then a large amount of excess skin is removed deeply from around the sides of the nail. The skin must be removed from both sides of the nail even if it only hurts on one side. The nail itself is not trimmed or cut.

Talking about problems in this area can be very difficult and personal. Be assured that Dr. Mandelbaum will assist you in a most professional and non-judgemental manner.

VANDENBOSE AFTER CARE

WILL IT HELP ME?

To know if it will help you an in person appointment is necessary with Dr. Mandelbaum. Your doctor needs to make a referral for that to occur.

IS IT PAINFUL?

During the procedure you will have no pain after the freezing goes in. After the freezing wears off it will hurt A LOT! You will have a prescription for pain medication. Many people are fine, but a few people have very severe pain that can last weeks to months. About 15% of people who have the procedure tell Dr. Mandelbaum that the pain is enormous.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

Risks include bleeding, infection and ongoing pain. There is a very small risk of recurrence but at this point Dr. Mandelbaum has not actually seen anyone come back with a recurrence after doing the procedure for the last 6 or 7 years.
